A Month of Tango Classes, Practicas and Milongas in July 2008

I will be back to Singapore from Buenos Aires in July 2008. Always eager to share my tango experience with you, I am please to announce that together with Su-Lyn and Valerie, we will be bringing to you a series of classes and guided practicas. We will also organize some milongas. I will be available for some private classes at the same period too.

We hope that the program below will satisfy the expectations of the most demanding and discerning tango lovers in Singapore.

Program

Tango class workshops at Dance on Us Studios

Workshops will be held on two days for all levels.

On Saturday 12th of July 2008
13:00 - 14:30 Tango class: Ocho cortado with a sensual twist
14:45 - 16:15 Tango class: Sacadas with impact!
16:30 - 18:00 Vals class: How to get that flying feeling?

On Saturday 19th of July 2008
13:00 - 14:30 Tango class: Add elegance and spice to your turns
14:45 - 16:15 Tango class: Boleos interrupted
16:30 - 18:00 Milonga class: Playful tricks of the milongueros

Guided practicas at Dance on Us Studios

Five guided practicas will be held on Thursday nights from 20:15 to 22:45 on the 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st of July 2008.

Perfume de Mujer Milongas at Bobby's
Three milongas will be held at Bobby's Taproom (Chijmes) from 21:00 to 02:00 on the following Fridays; 11th, 18th of July and on 1st of August

!!!Cherry on The Cake!!!
We are pleased to have Royce and Jean Michel conduct a special one time class on our first milonga on 11th of July, Friday, from 21:00 till 22:00; before the start of the milonga. The theme of the class will be 'How to dance and navigate well in a crowded milonga." So get ready for the milonga!!!*

*Price of the class included in the original milonga entrance fee.

Prices and Combos

Tango class: $25 per person per class
Guided practica: $12 per person per practica
Private class: $100 per hour *
Milonga entrance: $25 per person per entrance, includes one complimentary drink

For all combo registrations received before 26th of June; benefit from the following discounts:
Cachirulo combo: all 6 classes + all 5 practicas for only $150 (instead of $210)
El Beso combo: all 6 classes for only $120 (instead of $150)
Canning combo: any 4 classes for $90 (instead of $100)

Private Class Combo

At any point of time you can register for a series of 5 or more private classes and get 20% off each private at $80 per hour *

I fell in love with tango 3 years ago. I started learning tango with Royce and Jean-Michel in Singapore in December 2005.

In August 2006, I quitted my job and moved to Buenos Aires to learn tango from the most renowned masters and dance in the famous traditional milongas.

My Buenos Aires tango journey included some of the greatest milongueros and professional dancers. The ones that influenced me the most are Cacho Dante and Rosana Devesa for their classic apilado style; El Flaco Dany for his excellence in milonga; and most significantly Javier Rodriguez and Andrea Misse for their elegance and musicality in Tango Salon style.

I'm currently staying in Buenos Aires and will do so for the next four years, continuing my tango journey and studying for a philosphy degree at the University of Salvador.

Tango Classes
All classes are for all levels. Fundamental technical elements are taught at the start of the class, with the more advanced material added progressively.

Basic knowledge of tango helps, those who are interested but never danced before need not feel shy! Every class is structured so that even new dancers can learn important fundamentals.

Classes on Saturday 12th of July 2008

13:00 - 14:30 Tango class: Ocho cortado with a sensual twist
Let's make the ladies shine! Add personality and sensuality to this classic milonguero step.

14:45 - 16:15 Tango class: Sacadas with impact!
Some tango moves have been inspired by soccer, this one is called the 'paralytico' sacada.

16:30 - 18:00 Vals class: How to get that flying feeling?
Vals is all about turns and lightness; acquire the technic to improve your vals through a sophisticated turn.

Classes on Saturday 19th of July 2008

13:00 - 14:30 Tango class: Add elegance and spice to your turns
Learn how to add different feelings in your giros. Never do the same giro, with the same feeling everytime again!

14:45 - 16:15 Tango class: Boleos interrupted
Two dramatic boleos to attack the beat with power!

16:30 - 18:00 Milonga class: Playful tricks of the milongueros
Buenos Aires' milongueros have most fun when they dance milonga! You get to see why.

Guided practicas
Five guided practicas will be held on all Thursday nights of July, from 20:15 to 22:45. Selected topics with focus on the fundamentals of social dancing.

Practicas are free practise sessions for tango dancers to work on their own dance ,with myself ready to guide and answer sticky issues.

For the guided practicas, I will be focusing on fundamental but important elements of social tango, like walking, pivots, rhythm and melody etc. This is a good time for people who never danced before to see and experience tango first hand.

Every guided practica will be supplemented by one or two simple but interesting figures for the dancers to explore.

Milongas
The dance party where social tango is all about! This is where tango is born, the dance hall. We aim to provide the best musical and social experience as we can.

Tango dancers be prepared to be spoiled by the best tango music we can offer, the best social dancing conditions and a relaxed bar ambient in the heart of the city center.

Non tango dancers can come and see for themselves the place where tango does her magic. The sentimental embrace; the romantic tango music and the subtle movements of a totally improvised and social dance.

Perfume de Mujer Milongas to be held on the 11th July, 18th July and 1st August from 21:00 to 02:00.
